About Us Introduction

We have finished dozens of test engineering projects on a full array of Defense, Aeronautics and Space Platforms.  Every project we complete becomes a source of pride for Iode, Inc.  We are also proud of our accomplishments as an engineering firm.  Our work is our legacy.

Iode helped make Space Shuttle launches safer for  America's Astronauts

In response to the Columbia disaster, Iode revamped the launch monitoring system at the Kennedy Space Center. Specifically, the Video & Data Acquisition (V & DA)/Fiber Optic Terminal Equipment (FOTE) system that takes vital information at the launch pad and transfers it to the launch control center had many inoperative communication links and was using obsolete software (including Windows 3.1). Iode provided in depth failure analysis, revised communication links and upgraded software that dramatically improved NASA’s monitoring capability for today’s launches. Iode also developed the test specifications (TPS) for the NASA Space Shuttle Launch communication system. Certification was performed by NASA quality control and USA (United Space Alliance) to ensure adherence to their stringent requirements. Iode successfully completed all project phases including Definition, Critical Design Reviews, Preliminary Design Review, and final sign-off. Project was completed on time and without additional costs.

Iode helped America's Allies keep their jets flying longer

Weapon Test System Upgrade A concrete example is our Simplified Maintenance and Readiness Tester (SMART) Weapon Test System upgrade. The SMART Level 2 and 3 Test System was a 30 year old, antiquated test system that used ITA (Interface Test Adapters) to connect and evaluate all TORNADO aircraft systems including Line Replaceable Units (LRU’s) and Electronic Circuit Assemblies (ECA’s) for flight control, navigation, engine control, weapons control, etc. Iode performed the analysis required to determine the best course of action to upgrade the SMART Test System. Iode provided three possible upgrade paths. First, the entire SMART system could be redesigned from scratch to meet specifications. The second alternative became apparent after Iode performed software analyses that determined that a custom converter could be made to convert the SMART test system that contained 80 Test Program Sets (TPS) to a new system using the Common Core Test Platform (CCTP). The final and least costly alternative (saving at least US$10 million compared to the first two choices) was to replace and redesign the most obsolete sections of the SMART system. Germany selected this alternative, and Iode implemented this solution. Iode created software and readily available spares of new circuit cards that maintained the same footprint, pinouts and functionality of the obsolete ones. In fact, most of the time, the influx of new code and hardware increased functionality by a factor exceeding 10. This solution extended the life of the SMART system and consequently the TORNADO for a 5-year period.

Iode found the source of a problem in a combat aircraft fire control unit

Under special request by the Army, Iode Inc was called in to assist in finding the source of failures to the Hellfire Missile Pylon control unit on the Apache AH-64D. Iode responded by rapidly designing and developing test software for this very complex missile pylon control unit. This Reliability Development/Growth Test (RDGT) Software Test Program communicated to the PIU (Pylon Interface Unit) to continuously control, set fuses, and fire missiles for 90 days while going through vibration, thermal shock and other stress tests. The software consisted of over 11 million bytes including simulation of pilot commands, the Apache, and the missiles. As a result, the causes of operational failures were identified and corrected through specific Iode recommendations. Program Reviews, Peer Reviews, Customer Reviews, and sign-off documentation were created and submitted.
